The National Society of Arts and Letters announces its 2018 Music Competition for young woodwinds musicians. The national competition first prize is $10,000 to be awarded in Chautauqua New York in May 27, 2018. Other cash prizes will also be awarded at that time. Contestants from seventeen NSAL chapters around the country will be participating.
The Pittsburgh Chapter is the only one in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through which contestants may compete. The competition will be held in Pittsburgh at CAPA High School for the Performing Arts on Saturday, March 10, 2018. The three cash prizes in Pittsburgh will be $2,500, $1,500 and $750.
The competition is open to young woodwinds musicians (oboe, clarinet, flute or bassoon) between the ages of 19 and 25 who live in or are attending schools in Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Competition Rules are very similar to the National Competition Rules and there will also be three highly respected judges and one alternate chosen from the Pittsburgh music community.
