A day at the office for Mary Ann Ivan.

We recently heard from alum, Mary Ann Ivan, who was a percussionist with PYSO from 1982 to1983. Since then she has had a career as a Broadway pit musician, musical director, composer, and conductor. Here’s what she had to say about her time with PYSO.

When asked what she remembers most from her time with PYSO Ivan said, “The excitement of playing the music and being a part of such a great organization.” One of her favorite memories includes, “Whacking the tam tam in the Shostakovich 5 after the conductor cut off the orchestra (Never look away!!!), as well as personally knowing Mr. And Mrs. Maazel.

When asked how PYSO made a difference in her life, Ivan responded with, “knowing at a young age that music will be your life long work and happiness”

Thank you to Mary Ann Ivan for sharing your memories with us! If you have PYSO related memories or news to share, we’d love to hear it! You can submit here https://pyso.org/news-submissions/
