We recently heard from PYSO Alum Jim Anderson (French horn, 1968 to 69) and he has been busy! For nearly 50 years he has worked in the music industry in the field of acoustic audio engineering and production, specializing in high-definition stereo and surround sound recordings that have garnered a dozen Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, two Peabodys, and a pair of Emmy nominations…to name just a few accolades!

His PYSO memories include:

“…rehearsals every Sunday afternoon…all orchestra members had to report in and say hello to Mrs. Maazel (MaMa Maazel, as she instructed us to call her), who was mother to conductor Lorin Maazel. Maestro Maazel’s father Lincoln, an actor, narrated (PYSO performances of) “Peter and the Wolf” and Copeland’s “Lincoln Portrait.” Jim vividly recalls “when PSO conductor William Steinberg stepped on the podium and spoke to the orchestra for about thirty minutes. The intensity of his gaze as he talked to us of music, life and the importance of the arts will remain in my memory…For me, the PYSO was a beginning of a professional musical journey which has yet to end. Thank you, PYSO.”
