PYSO Percussionist Sophie Lauver is the winner of this year’s PYSO Concerto Competition! PYSO held its competition at Kresge Auditorium in Carnegie Mellon’s School of Music this past Saturday, January 12. PYSO Music Director Earl Lee and CMU School of Music Faculty Member Dimitri Papadimitriou judged the competition and both agreed that with so much talent to choose from it was hard to only get to pick one winner.
As winner of the competition, Sophie will perform Keiko Abe’s Prism Rhapsody with her fellow musicians at PYSO’s Season Finale at Heinz Hall on May 5!

Congratulations also go to all the PYSO musicians that have been chosen for the EQT Student Side-By-Side Program
EQT Side-by-Side gives student musicians in grades 9-12 the experience of rehearsing and performing “side-by-side” their Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra counterparts on the Heinz Hall stage. Participants receive personal coaching from their PSO stand partners and enhance their knowledge of the music field. Additional program highlights include group sectionals and workshops with Pittsburgh Symphony musicians and full orchestra rehearsals with PSO Associate Conductor Earl Lee.
