Since moving on from Pittsburgh, Francesco Lecce-Chong (PYSO’s Music Director from 2015 to 2018 and pictured above with PYSO in 2017) has been busy! He is currently the Music Director and Conductor of Eugene Symphony Orchestra (OR) and Music Director of Santa Rose Symphony (CA) and this weekend he makes his debut with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra-Congratulations Francesco!

Praise is also due to PSO musicians Betsy Heston (Assistant Principal Bass), Paul Silver (PSO Viola) and Harold Smoliar (PSO Principal English Horn). All three will be retiring from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra this month; Betsy will complete her 29th season, while Paul will complete his 38th season and Harold his 40th season!

Betsy, Paul and Harold were also coaches for PYSO and we are greatly indebted to them for their musical knowledge, encouragement and dedication that they instilled in our student musicians. Paul’s daughter (Sarah) and Harold’s daughter (Rachel) are also PYSO alumni having been part of the violin sections (Sarah 1998-2003 and Rachel (1997 to 2002).
