We recently heard from Matthew Rygelski, who has played clarinet with PYSO for three seasons. Matthew started attending Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music in 2019, and will be performing the Mozart Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet at Carnegie Mellon in the Spring of 2021. Some of Mathew’s other musical accomplishments include winning 3rd prize at Enkor International Woodwind and Brass Competition in 2017, attending Interlochen Clarinet Institute the summer of 2019, and interning at WQED-FM in 2021.
When asked how PYSO impacted his life, Matthew responded that it has made a “tremendous difference in my life in that it has opened the door for me to grow as a musician and explore different opportunities. From the moment I started my time in PYSO as a senior in high school, I have learned different approaches to performing classical music through collaborating with other musicians and the amazing guidance of our wonderful Maestro Earl Lee. I continue to use this knowledge in my pursuit of a Music Performance Degree from Carnegie Mellon University., and my internship at WQED-FM 89.3.”
Thank you, Matthew, for sharing with us! We can’t wait to see what the future holds.
