At 69 PYSO Alum, Helen (Caruso) Lowe (Violin 1964 to 1967) is still a very active and vibrant musician! She currently is a violinist in the Venango Chamber Orchestra and has played with the Clarion University/ Community Orchestra for many years. On occasion, she has also filled in at the Warren Symphony. As a member of PYSO she was always so proud and honored to play with such an accomplished orchestra…Her “favorite memory, aside from enjoying friendships with such talented musicians, involved our Chaperone, Mrs. Maazel, who sternly insisted that we girls sew up the slits in the back of our long black skirts, the year that they came into style. She was mortified! I smile every time I think of her and the skirts. What a caring, delightful and nurturing person she was. I’m so grateful to have had her in my life, even for that short period of time” She writes that being a PYSO musician taught her so much musically…“the expectations were that of a professional orchestra, in terms of attendance, practice and etiquette. I learned to find great joy in playing the music, all the while, taking it very seriously, in terms of commitment and pride, doing what was needed to play my best. That value remains with me today, in any orchestra and in my studies.”

Recent PYSO Alumni [pictured to the right: Ahmer’e Blackman (cello 2010-14), Nicole Lennartz (violin 2011-14), Julie Poetain (violin 2009-11) and Therese West (viola 2011-13)] are excited to announce the formation of their string quartet Radiant Strings!

Radiant Strings recently performed “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3” live in the sanctuary at THIS IS RED.
