Congratulations to PYSO students Jeongwoo Cheon (violin), Karin Hoppo (violin), Greta Coleman (viola) and Elinor Kim (cello) for being the winners of PYSO’s 23-24 season Montgomery Fellowship Quartet. The Montgomery Fellowship Quartet is co-sponsored by PYSO and Chamber Music Pittsburgh, in honor of Ruth M. Montgomery (who was a Founding Director of Chamber Music Pittsburgh). It is open to all PYSO string students, and the winner is chosen annually through audition. As part of the Fellowship, the students receive weekly coachings with Jeremy Black (Principal Second Violin in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra), as well as a season subscription to Chamber Music Pittsburgh, free tuition for the Youth Chamber Connection (our chamber music partnership with the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras), and performance opportunities throughout the community.
On Wednesday afternoon the quartet performed live on-air at WQED-FM as part of National Public Media Music Day. The quartet performed the first movement of Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 and then had an interview with WQED host Anna Singer. They were so delighted to perform on-air and to talk with Anna.
Bravi tutti!
