This past Sunday PYSO Music Director continued his virtual meetings with PYSO Students, FaceTiming with two cello players and an oboist. He met with Sophie Meloy (this is her first season with PYSO) who has been working on the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto. She was able to play the piece for Earl and get some valuable pointers about how to approach practicing it. Oboe player, Geoffrey Madge talked about music colleges, audition excerpts as well as getting key advice on how to approach a piece he’s currently working on, the Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto. Cellist (and first year PYSO Member, too), Hyunjun Chang and Earl discussed in depth the discipline needed in playing cello and how to get the most out of practicing in order to improve one’s playing despite limited rehearsal time.
